Samsung Galaxy S8 AR Emojis now available

A new update for Samsung Galaxy S8 and Note 8 phones adds AR emojis and super slow motion video.
Samsung is rolling out AR emojis to their Galaxy S8 and Note 8 phones.

The new features, which will be available as part of a September security update, also adds super slow motion video.

Previously, both features were only available on their brand new flagship devices: the Galaxy S9 and Note 9.

Samsung Galaxy AR emojis allow users to create and customise their very own emoji character. These emojis can then be animated and used in messages or videos.

The feature has also become popular with companies like Disney for branding purposes. Characters from Mickey Mouse, Frozen and the Incredibles have all made an appearance as AR emojis.

Recently, Samsung unveiled even more customisation options in response to Apple's Memojis and Animojis.

The older hardware of the generation 8 devices does pose some limitations. Super slow motion video is capped at 480fps for the old devices - while the S9 and Note 9 can enjoy 960fps.

This could be due to the hardware limitations of the device, which uses an older chipset.

It's unclear if this new update will give users access to the new Emoji 11.0 range of emoji characters, which are already accessible on the Note 9.

The new characters include new smiley faces, new hairstyles, new food items and even new fantasy characters including a hero and super villain emoji.
